Mentoring is continuously framed as one of the most successful methods of learning and development for individuals. However, the benefits of mentoring for the mentor themselves are rarely outlined.
Harvard Business Review have conducted some research into the effects of mentorship programmes on mentors themselves, and the results that arose are incredibly insightful for organisations looking into mentoring.
Within this article, they state that in terms of mental health, mentors experience lower anxiety levels and view their roles as far more meaningful than others who did not mentor. As a result of their mentees expressing their concerns and worries to them, the more senior officials were able to gain a deeper understanding of the experiences of those around them, removing the stigma of mental health disorders and enhancing the trust between individuals working together.
